Weekend albacore fishing was productive and boats are back out today. Action is out of Santa Cruz and Monterey but close enough for boats from Pillar Point to reach the fishing grounds.

Best score on Saturday came from the Kahuna ( out of Moss Landing had 44 albacore for 13 anglers. They had a similar score Sunday fishing straight out 28 to 40 miles from the harbor.

Most of the Kahuna’s fish were caught trolling, but 40 percent were caught on dead squid or iron.

The boat is out again today but forecasts of heavier winds may be a factor. Trips are planned for Wednesday, Friday and the weekend.

Chris’ Sport Fishing of Monterey (831.375.5951 had sporadic action Saturday. Chris Arcoleo said there were albacore where they were fishing and good scores by many other boats, but the Caroline and Checkmate had 15 to 20 albacore for their 12 anglers. Both boats went out again Monday and early reports were they were into fish.

Santa Cruz skiffs are heading 40 miles out. Best numbers on the weekend were near the 36'21/122'33 and 36'23/122'34.

Pillar Point boats also got into the action. The six-pack boat “Mooch Better” had 20 tuna for four anglers on Sunday. The Connie O had 11 albacore to 30 pounds on Saturday fishing 30 miles out.  The Queen of Hearts took 12 anglers to the 601 and caught 26 albacore to 25 pounds and one Bluefin tuna. Next trip is scheduled for Sept. 6.
