Salmon fishing is improving. The past week the bite is improving. Gridley has been where the bite has been best. Water temps is 4 to 5 degrees cooler in the lower Feather. Steelhead are starting to show in the low flow and high flow section. Johnson’s Bait & Tackle (530) 674-1912

Near Colusa, the water is warm (low 70s) and there’s a lot of algae-grass in the water. Tough to keep a clean line in the water. Salmon fishing is poor. Kittle’s (530) 458-4868

Fishing between Chico and the Barge Hole has been fair. Guides get 3 to 8 salmon per day. It’s not wide open but quality is good. Roe has been more productive than Kwikfish.  Striper bite is good in the Orland-Chico Area. Boaters are getting five to 15 shad per session near the Freeport Bridge. There are stripers being caught at Freeport and Cortland. Bring a lot of bait and be prepared to sort through small fish. Freeport Bait (916) 665-1935
