The Picture of the Week is a not-so-subtle reminder steelhead fishing is on up on the North Coast.
Krista Haban on Saturday caught this steelhead weighing an estimated 17 to 18 pounds with guide Mike Coopman while fishing the Smith River.
The bite is tough on the Smith, with clear conditions, but Ms. Haber’s fish is proof of what can happen when you try.
The Smith is no longer the only California option for steelhead anglers. The Eel is in play and drew heavy crowds on the weekend.
The Gualala is in good shape and there is action in the Central Valley on the Yuba and American.
Russian River is still out of play but could be worth a try by the weekend if rain stays away.
