No doubt Lake Berryessa is a terrific bass fishery, especially in the spring. But guide Don Paganelli for the past two weeks has been spooning for large numbers of fish. He also used a buzzbait to hook this big, eight-pound bass.
It’s Paganelli’s best bass ever from Berryessa and is this week’s Picture of the Week.
Paganelli was reeling in his one-ounce Blade Runner (black and red) when the bass attacked. “It came up to eat it,” Paganelli said. “It had most of the buzzbait in its mouth.”
That wasn’t the only good fish Paganelli nailed that day. He also boated a four pound largemouth on a 1-3/4 ounces spoon.
Paganelli believes the cooler weather settling in this week will only heighten the bass action. It will force the plentiful shad into bait balls and attract more bass.
