First shoreline salmon caught in Benicia
by Tim Goode
The inland salmon season has been slow but there is promise for better days ahead. Example? The first salmon of the season were caught in Benicia late last week.
The Benicia shoreline is the first spot shore anglers have a legitimate shot at salmon on their way upstream.
The first fish was landed Thursday and was an 8 pounder. On Friday, Jesse Bledsoe of Benicia kicked off the season with the first big salmon, an 18.6 pounder caught from the banks of the state park with a Ve-Ze lure, a specialty of Benicia Bait & Tackle. The lure had a green body and a black and yellow skirt.
