A 16-pound, 14-ounce bass was caught Tuesday at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton by a trout angler using Power Bait near the first dock.

The bass, shy of the lake record of 18-pounds, 1-ounce established by John Barker in 2008, is the largest bass landed in Northern California this year.

The angler, identified as Alex of San Leandro was fishing for trout when the bass hit. Attempts to release and revive the bass failed.
