Pier fishing is very good. Eight halibut were caught from the pier on Tueesday with live shiners. Stripers also will take the live shiners. Hair raisers also get halibut. A few salmon are being caught near the Soquel Hole, but jellyfish have moved in and that has made it difficult. Halibut have been scarce. A few have been reported near the Santa Cruz Wharf and the Whistle Buoy. Pinhead anchovies are near the pier and perch and jacksmelt are being caught. (831) 462-2208

Bass and halibut are attacking live shiners. Angel Island, Red Rock, Paradise and Southampton all hold fish at various times. Bass are primarily four to six pounds, some go to 10 pounds. Halibut in the 20 pound range are common. (415) 456-0321

Anglers are going right off the head to catch salmon in 80 feet of water. The close to shore bite has been going on since the weekends. Sea lions are an issue.
